Default Toss the Antenna Overboard

When the yard hauled Shiva they managed to part the very thin antenna which connects the GPS "antenna" to the below decks unit. I called Horizon to see if I could splice it or replace it. Answer: NO. Antenna needs to be replaced and the cable cannot be spliced.

Considering that it costs $90 to replace and the unit is 10 yrs old, I'm going to replace the entire unit after I attempt to splice the cable. It was a back up anyway. I can get a newer replacement which reads to same chart chips for $369 or a much newer version for $650 which reads the same cards.

Or maybe I won't get another plotter, but an AIS with a GPS output and feed that old plotter with a GPS position from the AIS etc etc and so forth.

I need to deal with the nav station which wants to have something where to old plotter would be if it were to be removed.

What would you do?
