Default Anchoring the hard way.

We are now watching a guy who just motored in by himself and went just ahead of an anchored boat which has no one on board. He dropped his anchor and it started running back pushed by the wind (20+ kts.) it let out a lot of line before he got back to the helm and suddenly he was beside the other anchored boat which was now swinging towards him. It has no stern anchor and is swinging badly in the wind.
He has had to push the anchored boat off with his foot a couple of times already and cannot get his line back in to get ahead of it and pull up his anchor.
The wind is too stiff for me to dinghy over to help so all we can do is watch this poor guy struggle with his boat. He cannot get past the other boat to pull up anchor as everytime he tries it swings toward him and he has to let his anchor go to fend it off.
I don't think he paid any attention to what he was doing when he first dropped his anchor and didn't look to see if the neighboring boat had out two anchors.
He is in a bad spot to be sure and nothing we can do right now to help him. Poor guy has been fighting the anchor and other boat for about 15 minutes now.
I'll let you all know how it turns out!

IF you can reach hm onthe radio he could take a line and loop it over a cleat on the other boat and then secure both end of the line to his own boat. at that point he can haul in anchor. Then release the other boat and finally reset his anchor.

Charlie...
He was out on his bow away from a radio and way to busy to answer.

He finally got his anchor up and drifted about a hundred yds. before he had it tied off and back at his helm. He drifted past us also. He has now motored up about three hundred yds. in front of us and is resetting his anchor. I am gonna have to watch this guy and hope he set it good with the wind we have here today.
Who says sailing is boring. Despite the problems we have had this anchorage has been more fun and entertainment than anything on TV ever could be. And we were told this was a nice quiet place to relax!
