In General
The O'Day 302 is a lot of boat for the money. Its looks are respectable (though retro futuristic). The boat is intended as a weekender or short vacation boat, not a liveaboard, although I lived aboard for a few months one time without too much difficulty. It might be cramped for a couple.
Boats were produced in the USA starting in 1987 and some were being produced in Japan still into the 90's.
Pros- Reasonably fast boat for a weekend cruiser with an lwl of 24.2ft.
- Roomy and spacious enough for a couple with kids
- Turn on a dime with balanced spade rudder
- Large wheel in cockpit makes for easy steering
- Lighter boat, cored FRP
- All the "big boat" options and features in a small, 30 footer
- High freeboard for size of boat
- Handles rough weather better than one would expect
- All lines lead aft to cockpit for singlehanding
Cons- Batteries difficult to access
- Aft cabin lacks good ventilation
- Galley a bit small, but ok for weekending
