Default Sawzalls + Batteries + Gravity = DISASTER! :)

Ok, so I vanished a bit this weekend because I had a little disaster.

My air cooled "engine room/generator closet" on my RV wasn't working so well in 80+ deg temperatures. Silly me, I designed it with New England parameters!

So, I decided to increase the size of the intake vent below the RV in order to get more air flowing through to cool the place when the generator runs.

I rented a Sawzall instead of using a jigsaw, because they didn't have any jigsaws left at the rental place.

I got below the vehicle (in the Lowe's parking lot of course! ), and started to cut my hole larger while holding the sawzall firmly to the ground to keep it from coming near my battery bank.

Well, this plan didn't work.

Near the end of my work, the blade grabbed on some metal, pulled the sawzall strongly up toward the batteries and poked a couple holes in a Trojan T-105 that's less than 6 mos old!!

This happened so fast, that before I knew what was going on, I had a stream of sulfuric acid coming down the sawzall blade, over the trigger and running down my and and arm. Of course, I had an open cut too. It ate away a little piece of my knuckle. Yeowch!!

So that was my weekend. I had to finish the hole, replace the battery and tend to an arm full of mild sulfuric acid burns, as well as one nasty one in the cut I had.

Working with batteries (or destroying them with sawzalls) is much better in a boat because you're *above* the battery rather than below it!!!

That's my blooper of the day. Let's hope I don't have more to share any time soon.

Sully,
Thankfully the acid did not get into your eyes.

Give a man a power tool and watch him go berserk!

Cut here and a little there and one more cut up there...OH ShIT! Did I do that?

Glad your ok. Acid is nasty stuff anywhere on the body but feels real bad in an open wound or the eyes!

Remember boys and girls when you are working with power tools always wear your safety equipment and remember the motto of the old show "Tool Time" "More Power!"

Yeah, I recommend you don't make a habit of that
