Default Best and Worst things About Living Aboard

We have plenty of liveaboards here. I was wondering... what are some of the best and worst things about living aboard. My list:

Best Things
  • Peace and Quiet
  • Constant motion of the boat
  • Feeling less connected to the rat race
  • Able to do boat projects quickly and in any spare time
  • Ability to move as easily as pulling up the anchor
  • Living what I Love

Worst Things
  • Hauling provisions
  • Hauling wood
  • Shoveling the dock and deck of boat
  • Relentless powerboat wakes

Sully, If you get out of the cold north your Worst List would be shorter. Our best are the places and people you encounter that would not be possible any other way. But the absolute best are the people you meet. The worst is power hungry bureaucrats, unskilled and inconsiderate boaters and crappy products sold by Marine Suppliers.

There isn't much I don't like about living aboard. It's mostly a dream come true.

Without a freezer it would be ice cream. I love me so ice cream every now and again.

Ethnic cuisine - Indian, Thai, Japanese etc.

Not being able to get into the car and get things - from food to supplies.

Normal exercise like walking stairs - it seems as if aboard I don't get enough exercise.

What I like is no TV, no telephone, no street noises, feeling the weather without having to get it from the net or the TV

I like being able to move my "home" when I feel like it, that the view changes with the wind.

I like being able to travel with little or no noise and energy.

I like feeling a sense of accomplishment every time I make a voyage safely.. even if it's to the dock for fuel.

I like using less - less water, energy, clothes, soap whatever.

No papers (or much less) no filing cabinets and junk accumulating.

Best Thing...fellow cruisers and REAL friendships.

Worst Thing... all the foreigners in other countries! No...really I think that worries about losing the boat in bad weather/poor holding & exposed anchorages were the worst part. Actually the threat to our physical safety AFTER Hurricane Ivan in Grenada in the rioting/looting aftermath was THE worst...but that was not a typical cruising situation.

Best thing: Feeling like you are a part of nature when at anchor. When I am out for a bit, sometimes I feel like I understand seagulls more than people.

Worst thing: A long, bad weather dinghy ride when you have to go to shore.

Best thing: Having the weather forecast decide when to move, so you don't have to.

Worst thing: Having the weather forecast decide when to move, so you don't have a choice.

Best thing: Moving every few days as the weather changes.

Worst thing: Having to move every few days as the weather changes.

Best thing: Moving regularly for variety, makes a small home feel big.

Worst thing: Moving regularly isn't conducive for most people to earn a living, to pay the cost of living.

Worst thing: Living aboard without the ability to move at will, due to the need to earn a living. Which is why I am currently living in a house.
