When I read her blog I couldn't figure out if she was leaving that day or this coming Saturday. Seems that others were wondering the same.

Her current location...Abby Sunderland | Abigail Sunderland | Wild Eyes | Solo Circumnavigation | Shoecity.com Sponsor

I was on my boat this weekend, but checked last night and was quite surprised she already gone again. She's making pretty good time. The update was from this morning or last night.

"Although Abby had sea trialed Wild Eyes after her refit, the team would have liked to have seen extensive sea trials which time did not permit for meeting her weather windows." - YIKES!!!

This is just the approach I feared they took. Somehow, I don't think we were very far off here in our assessment. Remember how I said 660AH of batts could barely keep up with that control panel she uses? Well, they put in 885, right? Pretty close.

I still hope they have given her a backup plan for if she is knocked down and loses those solar panels on the stern. She won't be able to keep running that control panel after a knockdown.

I'm with Kai Nui on this one. I'm quite concerned for her safety.

I just hope that if she does get knocked down and loses her solar panels that she is willing/able to go someplace to pick up some more diesel or whatever it takes to fix her problem. After reading the comment by her crew about sea trials I see they are taking this circumnavigation more like a race then a cruise.

It is a bit of a race Charlie, since it's all about being the youngest around.

Jessica....born 5/18/93
Abby.......born 10/19/93

Team Abby probably assumes Jesse is going to succeed, so the real pressure is on Abby. Maybe that is why they went with the faster open 40? They already have Intrepid, Zak's Islander 36.

That is a good point, Ralph. I think you and Charlie are both correct. It is a race.

Setting up a boat, then trying to do a passage in a given time frame is very *very* dangerous. Trying to do this for a solo around the world? I'm scared sitting right here. This isn't looking safe, IMO.

I'm with you Sully about it being very dangerous but if you add trying to not only doing it in an age group then add in the fastest makes it really *really* dangerous. Abby might take chances that she shouldn't to get the fastest time and youngest combined.

I hope this is not the case and she just completes the trip safe and sound.

Your mate in her little pink boat from Down Under is causing quite a Ruckus.

She has so many bloggers it is causing "Global Issues".
