Default Good learning day

Sunday Lisa and I went for a sail. We got to the marina about 1000 got the boat ready to head out. The winds were light and coming right down the channel. A San Juan 23 was wind on wind coming back in. As we motored past them their comments were no wind. We motored on out to marker 9 then raised the sails and turned around to sail down wind.

When we got between 13 and 15 I told Lisa that we should tack back out. So for the next 2 hours we tack back and forth in the Lavaca channel. We practiced heave to my preferred MOB movement. At times we would sail in a circle as we learned to tack. On the port tack we could heel at 20% at 4 kts. But when on the starboard tack we could only do about 1.7. I need to look at the mast to make sure it is perfectly straight.

All and all we had a great fun learning day. First time we have been able to tack and jibe.

Lisa showed her true self as a pod of dolphans came to visit with a baby dolphan. She gets like a little kid in a candy shop when the dolphans come to visit.

We wanted to go back out today but the winds are pushing 20 which is a little much for us.

We did have an incoming tide while we were out. The current coming in/out into Matagorda Bay are strong. We were close hauled as close to the wind as we could get on both tacks.

The Port Lavaca Channel is only about 190 ft wide. Outside of the channel I can stand up and walk to land. My head wouldn't even be under water.

Always good to practice the moves while out, but ya gotta watch that walking on water stuff in public or there will be protesters

Dolphins....

While In Mexico I met these 2 ladies, and took them sailing about 25 miles out from Puerta Vallarta to Tres Mariettas. We swam, snorkeled, and rode the dinghy in, and out of a cave with the waves.

All the way out these ladies were a wee bit nervous, and would crouch down to walk out to the bow. We pulled the hook, and set sail for P.V. again. That's when I saw the dolphins coming at us. I yelled DOLPHINS, and pointed. I told them they would take position on the bow. When they could see they would really ride the bow. These 2 ladies stood, and just about did wind sprints to the bow. They were hanging off the side, and giggling like a couple of bad little school girls.

The dolphins left to find other fun, and you would have thought these 2 women were glued to the deck. They were scared to death to come back to the cockpit. Finally on hands, and knees they made it back. Once safe in the cockpit they went all giggles again.

They are magical, beautiful creatures of our mother Ocean.

When you get to sea sooner, or later you will see something that makes this video look benign. Check out theFREE DIVING video too.....i2f

In Bonaire I saw one of these dolphin stampedes.

It was awe inspiring. The sound was what alerted me to the stampede. I was watching some divers from the tender and heard Pffft! Then heard it another 50 times, rapidly.

I looked behind me to see a dolphin stampede!

Mine was complete with baby dolphins, who were so small they had to leap twice for every breach the adults did!

You don't forget that kind of stuff...
